Whenever an ambulance goes wailing through the street, it is required for all vehicles to pull over and stop, allowing clear passage for the ambulance to drive safely and quickly through. Whenever I witness this, I always feel like a bit of my faith in humanity is restored a bit. It’s as if all these strangers are helping, in their own little way, to send that ill person within that car to the hospital as quickly as possible.
Of course, I don’t want to be too idealistic here because ambulances are allowed to run you over if you don’t get the hell out of their way.
But still! Just the sight of a busy street suddenly frozen for the sake of a critically injured or ailing person in a tiny and loud car. It just gives me an odd little warmth.
